It lives!

I keep not posting. I'm not posting about movies I'm loving and not loving. About tv shows I'm enjoying and not. About plans I have in the future.

Mostly I'm not doing it because I feel bad for all the random things I've started and not finished, like the movie meme from earlier this year or even posting the last of my photos from the Ireland trip. Which pretty much explains the giant pile of fic/WIP that's just WAITING for me to finish.

I also keep getting caught in the swirling vortex that is life/politics/state of the world stuff, which is both exacerbated and alleviated by Twitter.

So. Random stuff going on with me.

1) For the first time in several years, I AM going to Escapade again! Woo! I also submitted about 6 panel suggestions, some of which probably already got talked about while I've been absent (Halooooo Black Sails!), but I'm throwing my hat in that ring.

2) For the first time since the beginning, I am NOT writing a Yuletide story. I got a bit frustrated when I went to sign up (for characters, they had Childermas under the Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell book, and Segundus under the TV show, and apparently ne'er the twain shall meet), and I just left the tab for my sign-up open and then proceeded to miss the deadline. I also seem to be missing all of the sign-ups for pinch hits. I'm going to try to write something, either going through prompts or possibly *gasp* finishing one of the aforementioned WIP.

3) Speaking of the Great Pile of WIP...there's a Great Pile of WIP. The problem is they're all Black Sails at the moment, and they're two different sets of stories: one (and a half) is a sequel (and the sequel to the sequel) of a story I posted last autumn called "All Are Lunatics." The other set is actually kind of this weird monster that I keep chipping away at, since it's partly a direct sequel to the series finale, with each story being from a different character's POV (John, Madi, Flint, and Thomas). It also includes (in my head) a post-Treasure Island story, which technically doesn't really need the others to stand on their own. If I could finish SOMETHING, it would be nice.

4) I've been so in love with The Exorcist this season, I can't even tell you all. It's just about my perfect mix of horror, religion, and interpersonal angst with extreme competence thrown in.

I've still not decided if Marcus is a clam or not. In some ways, yes, he seems like one. In others, I don't think it's so much that he's bottled up voluntarily as he hasn't had much of anyone in his life who gave a shit about him as a person for him to TALK TO. Involuntary clam?

5) There have been many awesome movies I've seen this year. I, of course, can't name most of them right now, but I know there have been many.

Actually, here's one which I highly recommend on Netflix: Extraordinary Tales. Netflix kept recommending it to me as both a "horror" film (it's based on stories of Edgar Allen Poe) and a "Kids" film (because it's animated *headdesk*). It is, however, excellent, and showcases not only different "narrators" for each of the five stories told, but incredible and different styles of animation for each, as well. The narrators include Guillermo del Toro (The Pit and the Pendulum), Christopher Lee (The Fall of the House of Usher), Julian Sands (The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar), and my particular favorite, Bela Lugosi (Tell-Tale Heart). The last is particularly effective, I think, as the audio artifacts from the 1940s recording really lend that much more creepiness to the story itself.

Five is a good number. We'll go with five.
